CRONE, Gerald Roe (1899-1982)

He was an outstanding scholar-librarian who made notable contributions to cartographical history and to the history of geographical thought. He was a very active member of the Hakluyt Society; his less specialized and more popular publications included Maps and their makers: an introduction to the history of cartography (1933, 5th edition 1978) and The explorers: an anthology of discovery (1962).
